Reflection!

Hi all! It's been about a month since I've returned from Peru, and I must say as I take a look of all the pictures I have to admit I miss it and the culture. In just a week I learned so many things that have enriched my culture that I am thankful for having the opportunity to go. International travel is essential in growing up and maturing, every country has different ways of life and it's important to step out of that American mentality and realize that not everyone is as fortunate as us Americans. I plan to take a few more trips this year, and I want to try and reflect while I'm there, and compare and contrast the differences between countries and cultures. I will be preparing a project on the mechanism and techniques of Peruvian weaving. It was what captured my attention the most, so for anyone who has specific questions please ask me and I will include it in my presentation! Bye!

Machu Pichu

BEAUTIFUL and BREATH TAKING So I finally came to visit what Peru is mostly known for...MACHU PICHU! Let's just say that I was not expecting what I saw on the top of the mountain. After about 5 hours of walking, I was exhausted. However, I maintained myself while still breathless of Machu Pichu. The Incans were extremely skilled architects, as the structure of their village consisted of stones, granite to be percise, of many different angles placed together perfectly. It was truly remarkable.

Incan Valley called Ollantaytambo

My visit to this Incan village was very interesting! I bought beautiful items here. One of which included a hand made rug which I plan to use as a wall decoration. It depicts Peru nicely it shows the sun, the lamas and the workers. The mountain depicts a face of a man that was fascinating! There was a stairwell that took brave people to the top, but after yesterdays experience with the altitude sickness I opted to stay down where it was safe for me. Little towns girls took all my money! They begged me to help pay for their schooling and I felt so bad I bought 4 finger puppets, a bracelet and a wool hat. I plan on giving the bracelet to my dog Jolie and using it as a collar. As for the finger puppets well, I suppose I can stage a play let's see if someone will record me!

Without Internet for a few days!

Hello all! Have been without the internet for a few days, but it's because in the mountains of Machu Pichu there isn't much access unless you go to internet cafes. Have managed to capture some breath taking shots which are currently being uploaded to my online albums. Sit tight, a lot to come!

Peru's Sacred Valley

Image
Today I visited the sacred valley where I saw amazing artists at work. The towns people had the hair of sheep hair and alpaca hair and weaved it into wonderful things such as rugs and clothing. I purchased two gloves, a scarf, a wool poncho, and two containers to hold wine. All very beautiful, handmade and colorful. The sacred valley is an earth quake region and many of the homes built on hills have been destroyed by the earthquake that took place on August 15th. I was told that this day is called the Virgin Assumption Day and that the month of August is the month of the mother earth. The towns people were very scared during this time because the thought mother earth was upset with them. I learned that the root from a potato here is shaved and used as a natural shampoo to clean the hair of the animals as well ad human hair. It took out all the dirt! Was amazing to watch. Than a dyeing process took place where special flowers, insects and vegetables where used to tint the threads. The o

Alhambra Hacienda Restaurant

For lunch we went to a really pretty restaurant where I got to take fabulous photos with a lama, an alpaca, and a parrot. There were beautiful flowers all around and the food was delicious. In particular, there was this dish that was like a layered cake. It contained layers of tuna fish, avocados, mashed potatoes, and at the top it was covered in sticks of cheese. I took.a picture of this dish. Its below:

Cusco

Today I traveled to the mountains of Cusco. I wish it went better than it did because after about the first hour I got really sick because of the altitude and had to head back to the hotel to take some medicine. I did manage to record an interview with a native and take some pictures with lamas! Resting up now, will post some pictures tomorrow.
